Interacting with people isn’t his thing, and he prefers the company of a bottle of vodka, a shot glass, and maybe a whore. There’s no doubt he’s hiding from a checkered past, but he does well keeping everything to himself…
…until the night his schooner capsizes, and he’s stuck on a life raft with one of the passengers.
Raine’s young, she’s cute, and Bastian would probably be into her if he wasn’t suffering from alcohol withdrawal. As the days pass, DTs, starvation, and dehydration become the norm. Even the most closed person starts to open up when he thinks he’s going to die, but when she realizes their traumatic pasts are connected, it’s no longer the elements that have Bastian concerned.
He has no idea how he’s going to Survive Raine.
My Review
Two people meet and become shipwrecked, they’re stuck on a raft, they fall in love, blah blah blah, sounds pretty boring right? WRONG!…That is SO NOT THE CASE!!! Surviving Raine is a story of disaster, perseverance, and finding love when you least expect it.
To start with, Daniel is a drunk, and you can only imagine what hell he goes through without any alcohol and with Raine being the ONLY other human around just screams problems! That is only the beginning of their troubles though. They spend weeks on the raft from the ship and the extremes they must go through to survive are VERY intimidating. My heart really went out to Raine, she was doing her very best to survive a bad situation, when Daniel is only making things even more difficult.
Raine is a very sweet woman that is just taking a vacation by herself before she truly begins her “life.” what she has to go through just dealing with him and his drinking (or lack of). Raine is a very simple and pleasant woman that is very patient, BUT, also a “no take shit” girl…
Being the only survivors of the shipwreck, and being stuck on a raft together instead of on land, Raine & Daniel get to know each other…their story is NOT like any other love story – there are some deep emotional feelings that Daniel keeps hidden.I spent a good part of this book thinking that I wish I could tell Daniel to stop being such a jerk, appreciate that he’s alive and has a companion to keep him company that didn’t drown him when she had the chance!
The reader is given a taste of the male perspectives and insecurities in Surviving Raine. Generally these are emotions that we usually learn about through the female point of view, so it was nice to see it from a different side for once.
I LOVED the story and would read it again. I truly enjoyed the story and would absolutely recommend it to ANYONE!!!
