Now, they are the mean girls I pass in the halls at L’Academie L’Mort, and the insanely hot guy with perfect hair I’m told I will be working with. Oh, and after graduation, it turns out I’ll be one, too.
Confused? Join the club. The line forms behind me.
I was living the normal life of a sixteen year old just days ago. I loved martial arts and playing my cello. Then, I found myself ripped from everything I knew and summoned to a University in a parallel paranormal universe.
How am I adjusting? My only friend is a squirrel, and something is out to get me. Not what you would call a stellar start. I’m meant to train and ready myself for the Reaper Trials. But as whoever—or whatever—is hunting me closes in, I begin to fear I’m the one that won’t make it out of Death Academy alive.
I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
Two of my favorite authors came together to write the Reaper Trials. A story about a young girl who is in an academy to become a reaper. Mia Ellis and L.E. Perez are both good authors on their own, so by combining, I knew this book would be good. I was not wrong.
A seemingly normal 16 year old is now at a paranormal reaper academy. She was summoned al la Harry Potter to this academy in a parallel universe, meaning she can’t just walk home. Like every academy there are the mean girls, the hot untouchable guys, and a squirrel who understands you. Wait.. What? Yes you heard me right, a squirrel that understands her and is really her only friend. Oh and she has a big baddy trying to take her out before she can graduate.
You can tell which author wrote which part, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I actually like it because it makes sense to me. One one will write the fight scenes and one will write the other parts. They are using what they do best to make the best book they can. This is actually the first reaper academy book that I have ever read. I am so excited to see where it goes.
The characters are well developed and you start to love and hate certain ones. One thing that I will give these authors is that when they put action into a story, they make it believable. It could be because both of them do martial art in their spare time. They are also good authors who understand that things need to be believable even when you are in a parallel universe.
I really enjoy this story and can’t wait for the second one to come out. Well technically it has come out but my TBR is horrible. So between trying to catch up on reviews and catching up on stories, I am way behind. Not to mention my work schedule is all in flux. So I am just trying to process what is going on.
