Review: The Page Turners By Kevin T. Johns

Nate Bourdain and his friends are thrilled to discover an ancient book of magic hidden in the school library - they now have the means to stand up to villains that make high-school life such a battle. But when the book's dark magic releases a fictional killer into the real world, the teens must prove they have what it takes to be heroes, or fall as bloody victims in their own horror story turned real.

This book may be unsuitable for people under 17 years of age due to its use of sexual content, drug and alcohol use, and/or violence.

Melanie’s Review

The Page Turners turned out to be a little bit different than I expected. Absolutely not in a bad way though. I really enjoyed every minute of it. For some reason it reminded me of my childhood. Obviously, there was nothing even close to this kind of thing going on in my childhood (THANK GOD!), but as a teenager, I can remember imagining things similar to what happens in this story.

This book reminds me of the movie Monster Squad from the 1980’s. I’m not sure if you have even heard of that movie before but I loved it. There’s a group of boys who read horror comics and much to their surprise, Dracula is real and trying to take over the world. The Page Turners is a bit more violent than Monster Squad, but the idea of literary characters coming to life is the same. If this book were real life, these guys would be seriously traumatized. Why is it that after all these years, kids STILL haven’t learned that it’s a bad idea to read aloud from a magical spell book??

I enjoyed so much about this book, from the creativity of it, to the tone, to learning about who these guys are and how they end up in this mess to begin with. The Page Turners is very interesting and the author, Kevin T. Johns has some wicked cool ideas going on in that head of his!

I would recommend The Page Turners to anyone who likes horror. Whether you’re a teen or an adult, I think this book will be enjoyed by horror fans of all ages. The name, “The Page Turners” absolutely fits this book as well. Once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down! I just had to see what was coming next. A definite page turner!
