Loving a demon isn’t the end of the world—losing him is.

Claire, the Devil’s assistant, knows very little about the world she was dropped into five years ago, when she inherited her mother’s unpaid debt to the Demon King. She certainly didn’t expect to be a contender for the Fallen Queen’s throne, a target for the Druid King’s mafia, or a suspect in the murder of Junior, the Devil’s oldest hell spawn.

In a last ditch effort to save her life and get out of her deal with the Devil, she sets out to solve Junior’s murder only to be taken prisoner by the four most dangerous immortal hell spawn alive.

Not to be out done, the Pagan Queen Mab, claims Claire for entering her realm uninvited. She has an old debt to settle with her brother the Devil. Taking Claire from him after losing her years ago is just icing on the cake.

Will Claire win her freedom, and save herself from the Devil? Or be trapped by Mab forever

What is Dark Hope All About?

The Devil’s Assistant series (Dark Hope, Book 1) started in 2008 with the question, what would it be like to be the Devil’s administrative assistant? Over the years I’ve heard more than one person get it wrong! Well actually not wrong, just not what was in my head … I mean Claire isn’t Satan’s Secretary and this isn’t a book in the humor or satire category. She doesn’t work in an office where everything is hard just because the Devil’s “The Boss”, and she’s not currently living in Hell. She’s a normal girl, living a somewhat normal life on Earth, with a slightly overbearing boss (from a normal 9-5 standpoint), and a serious debt hanging over her head when she dies. At least that’s what she believes is going on … but nothing is ever that simple (nor do we want it to be—right?).

Claire’s journey really begins when she finds Junior, the Devil’s oldest hell-spawn, dead in his office. All evidence—and there’s a lot of it—points to Claire as the killer. The only silver lining is that she might just get out of her deal with the Devil if she can figure out who killed him. Simple, right? … no, not simple at all!

Along with Claire you’ll meet some interesting characters along the way, here are just a few:

Omar  – A seer, and friend sort of

Cinnamon – The new oldest hell-spawn in existence
(but only by a few seconds)

Mace – The villain and youngest of the four immortal hell-spawn half-pagan half-demon quadruplet siblings (that’s a mouthful)

Sage & Sorrel – The twins, middle children between Cinnamon and Mace

The Boss – The Devil, HRH Demon King, Conrad Bosh … take your pick

Quaid – The Boss’s right hand man, a demon and total bad-ass

Check out Dark Hope by HD Smith to meet all of Claire’s “Friends” … happy reading!
