Ashes: A Graced Story is part of Amanda Pillar’s Graced Series.  It fits between book 2 and 3.  I read it as a stand alone, and I don’t think I lost too much in not reading the first two so…

Anywho, Aria Ash is a Were Vampire who was living with her mother when her pack came to call.  In came to call, I mean they came to kill the pups.  Aria was able to get the twins, the younger two out and away before they broke in.  Why did they want the pups?  Because they were hybrids, and therefore were outcasts that needed to be removed.

Sebastian, an alpha with a past, spends his life helping outcasts, especially pups and other young children who are outcasts.  When he got an invitation to meet with Mr. Ash, Aria’s father he realizes that he knows those eyes.  In fact they have haunted his dreams for many years.

This is a novella, and it is part of an already existing storyline.  Initially, it was confusing, but Amanda explains the backstory enough to understand.  I really like how even though we are thrown into a world, I know what is going on.  Not only that, but even as a novella, there is enough plot to really empathize with the characters.  Well the characters that you want to empathize with.  The others… well you want to help pick them off.  I mean who goes after poor defenseless kids.

Even though initially Aria is a little standoffish.  Sebastian is an alpha, like any other alpha.  Strong willed and protective.  It is a strong combination, but if they can get over the past, they may be able to actually have a future.
